Migrating to the other side of the world can be a challenging and isolating experience.
The GROW Program was made available to the Irish Community in Queensland.
The benefits of the program to Irish Migrants include:
- The program is free and does not require a referral or Medicare Card to access it. Visa status is not relevant.
- It can be accessed in both Ireland and Australia
- Although it’s worth noting GROW Australia is an independent charity and it is not affiliated with the Catholic Church
- It is an Intentional Community that fosters connection and friendship between members while giving them strategies to improve their mental health
- Is funded by Queensland Health.
Friendship is a key component of the program and people can form deep personal connections with each other and combat isolation. There is a great deal of trauma involved in migrating to the other side of the world and it can be difficult to develop a strong network as an adult. GROW Australia has established this group and continues to facilitate this group at the IASAQ office.
