Do your research
- Research your planned destination.
- Try to have accommodation organised for the first few weeks.
- Find out about local culture and clubs (food, social groups, sports clubs).
- Learn a little about local systems and institutions (public transport, rentals, and the laws for your chosen state).
Networking
- Purchase a SIM card when you arrive from a newsagent or a mobile network such as Vodafone, Telstra, or Optus.
- Contact people you may know here!
- Research local Facebook groups (Irish around) Brisbane-Gold Coast-Sunshine Coast etc
- Reach out to potential employers, Job Search (SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site)
Check your essential documents (and check them again!)
- Current, up-to-date passport.
- Birth Certificate.
- Relevant visa.
- Driver’s license (with the same name as your passport!)
- European Health Insurance Card with the initials IE. European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) - HSE.ie
Bring evidence of your Qualifications/ Employment History
- Create a current resume ready to go (2 pages max)
- References from employers, along with any recent pay slips.
- Original certificates/degrees/transcripts.

Have adequate funds
- Notify your bank of travel plans.
- Register for online banking.
- Bring sufficient funds to support yourself until you find employment. Accommodation in Australia can be limited and expensive.
- Have an emergency fund.
- Consider leaving an emergency fund at home with someone you trust.
