The Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland (IASAQ) is a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting the welfare of Irish Australians. IASAQ was established in response to the growing need to assist Irish families and individuals facing distress while living in Australia. We receive funding from the Irish Government through the Emigrant Support Program, managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
We collaborate with sister organisations in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, alongside the Irish Embassy in Canberra, the Consulate in Sydney, and the Honorary Consulate in Perth, all of which provide vital information and support to the increasing number of Irish migrants in Australia.
Our mission is to offer meaningful and valuable assistance to the Irish Australian community in Queensland, ensuring that members feel supported in times of isolation, vulnerability, and crisis. We also aim to help individuals of all ages stay connected to their Irish culture and heritage.
IASAQ provides referrals, advocacy, and support to help families and individuals to access the appropriate resources, including:
- Referral, information and access to family and personal support services
- Health services, including mental health care
- Social and welfare support
- Housing and accommodation assistance
- Support with unemployment issues
- Irish and UK passport applications
- Funeral arrangements
- Repatriation of deceased persons to Ireland
- Community events
- Volunteer assistance for all needs
IASAQ is here to offer a friendly, non-judgmental voice from home, complete with a comforting cup of tea or coffee and a welcoming smile for all Irish Australians who need our support.
We maintain strong connections with the Queensland GAA (QGFHA), the Irish Chamber of Commerce, the Brisbane Irish Festival, and other Irish community groups in Brisbane. Our goal is to foster and celebrate the Irish community in Queensland, honouring its rich heritage and its contributions to the state's development, while nurturing both existing and new positive relationships.
The IASAQ Board
The Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland (IASAQ) is governed by a dedicated Board of volunteer members who are committed to supporting the Irish community across Queensland.
As our governing body, the IASAQ Board provides strategic direction, ensures strong financial oversight, and monitors the achievement of organisational goals - ensuring we stay strong and grow with purpose.
The IASAQ Board plays a key role in guiding the growth and development of the Association, upholding principles of good governance, and helping us remain responsive and effective in meeting community needs.
