Cuan Nua | Social Group

Helping you settle into life down under and build friendships along the way.

About Cuan Nua

We understand how challenging it can be to find your feet, make new friends, and adjust to life in a new country. Cuan Nua, meaning “New Haven” in Irish, is here to make that journey a little easier.

This program provides assistance, community connections, and ongoing support for newly arrived Irish people settling in Queensland. Whether you’re here for a working holiday, study, or to explore new opportunities, Cuan Nua is designed to help you feel at home.

Through informative sessions, you’ll learn practical information about living and working in Australia — from finding accommodation and employment to understanding local systems and services. We also offer practical aid and referrals where needed, ensuring that no one feels alone or without direction during their first few months here.

Cuan Nua is especially ideal for backpackers and those on temporary visas, offering guidance on everything from Medicare and tax to transport, travel, and community networks.

One of the best ways to get involved is by joining one of our coffee mornings or casual social gatherings. These friendly meet-ups are a great way to connect with fellow Irish newcomers, share stories, and build lasting friendships.

At Cuan Nua we encourage participants to become members of the Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland (IASAQ). Your membership helps us continue delivering programs while supporting our Irish community across the state.

So if you’ve just arrived in Queensland — or even if you’ve been here a little while and are still finding your way, come along, get involved, and discover your New Haven in Australia.
