Our Just a Little Older (JALO) group is a welcoming community for senior IASAQ members to connect, engage, and celebrate their rich culture and heritage.

Our seniors Group is affectionately known as the "Just a Little Older Group" (JALO’s). At the Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland (IASAQ), we are proud to offer a range of activities for all age groups. JALO's is one of our most cherished programs and offers a welcoming community for our members to connect, engage, and celebrate their rich culture and heritage.

JALO's meet fortnightly on Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The group enjoys an extensive variety of social activities and provides a range of support for older members who need assistance.

Group activities include:

  • Outings & Social Events: Visits to the Botanic Gardens in Brisbane, local heritage sites, and various parks for picnics.
  • Informative Talks: Sessions on healthcare, mental well-being, healthy eating, and physical activity.
  • Social & Cultural Gatherings: General catchups, movie screenings, trivia, and cooking demonstrations.
  • Creative & Hands-on Activities: Crafts, knitting groups, and lots more!

The benefits of joining JALO include:

  • Reducing isolation and loneliness
  • Being part of our Befriending and care visits
  • Advocacy support for various concerns.

While all the activities are free, we encourage you to become an IASAQ member. If you're interested in joining IASAQ and participating in our JALO activities, we'd love to hear from you!

Here's what some of our Seniors have to say about our programs:

"As I don’t have family living nearby, I really appreciate the help offered from IASAQ. The team are fantastic always ready to listen and help when needed. I love coming to the club and enjoy the interaction and communication. Everyone is so friendly and always up for a chat. It is great to be part of JALO's.

There's always something happening at JALO's! Whether it's a lively discussion, a new activity, or simply a chance to reminisce, this group offers a wonderful opportunity to develop social connections and share stories of home, both near and far."
